With summer vacations coming to an end and the school year beginning soon… the scissors and clippers were snipping and clipping along at this year’s Peace Lutheran Free Haircut Event for nearly 60 students.
The families were lined up early to be able to get their children's hair cut and styled to start the school year. From 11 AM until 6 PM on Wednesday, August 24th in Peace’s Family Outreach Center, There was a steady stream, ages pre-school to high school, ready to have a beginning of school trim.
Three very talented and devoted cosmetologists stood for nearly 7 hours as one by one the chairs were filled with young clients. A number of serious discussions took place between parents and children for determining just “how short”, “how long”, “how fashionable”, or “how radical” the cut would end up. The stylists were helpful negotiators and everyone seemed to come away with BIG
smiles.
Those waiting their turn were treated to movies, games, sno-cones, cookies and punch. Coffee and tea also accommodated the adults.
There were other volunteers on staff to help welcome, register and attend to the needs of the hairdressers and guests. All were rewarded with “Happy and appreciative customers” and the satisfaction that comes from doing what God asks us to do with a glad heart… serve in His name.
Special thanks to Melanie, Carolyn, Karilyn for the exceptional time and talent you shared. You made a wonderful difference for so many!
