This year's confirmation project focuses on the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7).  Each Student has been asigned a portion of the Sermon to creatively interpret.  Projects are due March 18th.

Instructions:

  • Using the passage you were given, you are to come up with a creative presentation.
  • In addition to your passage, you may also use the introduction and the conclusion to the sermon (Matthew 5:1-20 & 7:24-27 respectively) if you desire.
  • You may partner with one other confirmation student, but your project must then include both assigned passages.
  • You may use any creative method you desire, some resources and ideas can be found on the confirmation page of our website.
  • You may get the help of any adult (parents, mentors, others) but you have to come up with the idea and do the work.
  • You will be asked to share your project with the class, explaining it if necessary.

Helpful tips:

Here are a few suggestions for working on the project.   Your project can be any creative interpretation.  Write something, draw something, act, video, music - anything.  But it does have to express the passage you have been given, so the first steps are to think through the passage.  Then you'll be ready to think through how to present it.

  1. Read or at least skim through the whole sermon.  Which section of the sermon does your passage fit in?  Is it talking about our relationship with other people or with God?
  2. What do you think Jesus point is in what he is saying?  Why does he say it?  What does it mean to us?
  3. What's another way of saying the same thing that Jesus said?  Rewrite it in your own words.
  4. What does the passage mean to you?  How would you have to change if you were to live that passage?  What effect would it have on your life?
  5. What would be the best way you know to share what you have learned with the class?  What are your skills and how can you put them to use in presenting this passage?
  6. Need some ideas?  Look at the resources suggested in Creative Web Resources for Confirmation Projects
  7. Stumped?  contact pastor Bryan or Jason and ask for some help
