Learning the Books of the Bible can be a Challenging endeavor, but pays out exponetially in helpping us live and understand our faith. Being able to find something in the Bible is a critical skill to an active and vibrant faith. Here are some helpful tools.
Books of the Bible Chart. This chart lists the books of the Bible in order and helps you understand how the Bible is composed and that it is not randomly assembled. Understanding the ordering of the Bible can be one of the first steps to figuring out how to find something. Here are some suggestions for using it.
- Print off a copy and keep it in your Bible for quick reference. Whenever you look something up, work your way back through the table. For example "I'm looking for Joshua which is one of the twelve history books in the Old Testament."
- Cut out the church and cut along each line untill each box on the chart is a separate piece. Then practice assembiling them in order like a puzzle. Start with the New Testament only, then try the Old Testament only, then try mixing them together and sorting them out.
- Make a trivia game of it: "Deurteronomy is in the __________________", "name one of the Gospels", "what type of book is Timothy", "what is the first epistle by Paul", etc.
- Old Testament Cards - provided by Sunday School Sources.
- New Testament Cards - provided by Sunday School Sources.
- Start by memorizing one a day, adding one each day: Genesis; Genesis, Exodus; Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus; etc.
- Shuffle the deck and then put them back in order.
- Randomly draw a card out of the deck and then find that book in an actual Bible. Read a passage or two from that book and talk about what you read.
