Confirmation '11/'12

Conformation class is for youth, 6th-8th grade, who are interested in joining the church. A three year program, students learn about the Old Testament, New Testament, and Luther's Catechism. Classes run thorugh the school year beginning in October.
In confirmation the student is affirming the vows taken at their Baptism and becoming a full member of our congregation. Confirmation is a critical step in the faith life of a young person, but it is by no means its completion. Confirmation is not graduation. Unlike school, faith is not something we complete or finish. Rather we spend our entire lives discovering and learning the incredible depth of God's love and forgiveness. Confirmation helps us on this discovery by opening the faith up to us and drawing us deeper within it. It is more than learning and knowledge, Confirmation is about becoming a part of our faith community. This is why participation in the classes is so important.
While confirmation is a requirement for young people to become a full member of our congregation, it is not a requirement to attend. Youth who choose not to attend classes and be confirmed can still be a part of congregation and its activities and life. If later they desire to become a full member, they can do so through adult membership classes. Because it is optional, confirmation is a commitment and it is expected that every student who participates in confirmation will take it seriously.
Students are expected to attend all confirmation activities. If they are unable to attend please contact Jason or Pastor Bryan and let them know. If they are absent they will be given make-up homework to complete instead. Students are also expected to complete all requested homework. Should a student choose not to do these two things, they should not expect to be confirmed.
In addition to regular classes the confirmation students are involved in service projects, congregational ministries and worship throughout the year. These are a critical part of teaching the students that faith is only in part about knowledge, it is also about living lives of faith in which we fullfil the commands to love God and love our neighbor. Students will also be trained as acolytes and involved in worship as a way of giving back to their church.
