Face of Jesus

Last weekend a group from Peace traveled to Detroit to catch one of the last days of an art show entitled Rembrandt and the Face of Jesus.  It was better than I could have imagined.  Rembrandt is a master and his images have a depth that reaches out from the surface.  But there was a surprise in the exhibit that I wasn't quite expecting.

If I could do one thing

Yesterday I tried to reflect on how to work at faith formation in people.  I ended up reflecting on what has went wrong so that our faith formation efforts are less than effective.  So I wonder, if I could do one thing to help form the faith of others, what would it be?

Faith Formation

It's a topic that Jason and I spend an awful lot of time talking about: how is faith formed in people.  It may seem like a simple questions, but as our culture moves away from church participation and value in overt faith expressions, it's certainly not an easy one.

The little small voice

I quite regularly have an inner dialogue going on in my head - a conversation that trails on and on: in the car on my way to work, while I'm trying to sleep, when I'm suppose to be listening to others, even when I listen to others preach (true confession), and yes, it's even happened on occasion to me when I was preaching.  The little voice inside is almost always talking.  Sometimes it relates to what's going on but sometimes it's just in its own inner world.

The question we're afraid to ask

This morning it snowed.  I was working on finishing up my confirmation lesson on the Sermon on the Mount, but decided to take a break.  I went out to shovel the drive and was listening to This American Life.  The episode's title was "Mr. Daisey and the Apple Factory."

Preaching to the choir

Sometimes I wonder if our efforts at sharing the good news of Jesus with others is mere preaching to the choir.  Do others understand our efforts?  Do they have any positive outcomes?  Or are we just talking to ourselves, reassuring each other that we're still alive and relevant?

Christmas 2011

It ain’t over yet!  The decorations may be coming down, the Christmas music put away, but it’s not over. Christmas isn’t finished.  As the church, we only just start celebrating Christmas on December 25th, but we don’t finish till January 6th, on Epiphany.  Remember that old song the 12 days of Christmas?

2 Minute Summary of the Bible

Here's a great two minute sumary of the Bible: why the incarnation and what it means for us.  N.T.Wright is a New Testament Scolar and former Bishop in the Church of England.
